Equinox Gold names new COO as Roux retires to South Africa
Canadian miner Equinox Gold has announced that Doug Reddy will transition to the role of COO at the start of September, upon the retirement of Attie Roux.
Reddy, a professional geoscientist, has been executive vice president (EVP) technical services for Equinox Gold since March, following the merger with Leagold Mining, and was Leagold’s EVP technical services from the company’s formation in 2016.
Prior to Leagold, Reddy was with Endeavour Mining for ten years in executive and senior management roles focused on technical services and business development and was also technical director for AMEC Americas.
“I am personally excited to work closely with Doug again after spending five years together, alongside Attie, helping to build Endeavour Mining,” CEO Christian Milau commented in a statement.
He said that Reddy’s Spanish language fluency and his technical, operations, corporate and company building expertise made him a natural fit for the position. His detailed knowledge of the Leagold assets would be integral as the company optimised, developed and explored its expanded portfolio of mines.
Milau also thanked Roux for his contributions to Leagold and now Equinox Gold. He was appointed COO following the merger with Leagold to facilitate the transition and consolidation of operations with the intention to retire to his home base in South Africa once the integration was complete.
Equinox Gold has six producing gold mines in the Americas, with two properties in the US, one in Mexico and five in Brazil.
