Engen has pledged support to CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa, after Arno Brown used the company’s  Employee Community Partnership Programme to raise funds for the Non-Profit Organisation (NPO).

Arno, an Employee Relations Specialist at Engen, will run the Comrades Marathon on Sunday, 9 June 2024, with all proceeds raised donated to CHOC.The Engen Employee Community Partnership Programme seeks to create meaningful partnerships between Engen employees who are involved in community upliftment initiatives, and their local communities, and thereby foster a caring company ethos.

Arno was eligible for a R5 000 ECPP grant and contributed an additional R1 010 from funds raised from colleagues, friends and family.

Engen has been offering financial support to back CHOC’s many community programmes for several years, comments CHOC CEO, Hedley Lewis.

”Thanks to generous contributions from individuals like Arno and organisations like Engen, we are making a difference in many lives.

“Just as the race journey presents challenges, childhood cancer is incredibly tough and requires a united community for support. These contributions provide essential resources to significantly impact children, teenagers, and families affected by cancer and we are so grateful”.

CHOC has helped those who have no choice but to face childhood cancer and life-threatening blood disorders for over 45 years.

Adds Engen’s CSI Manager, Olwethu Mdabula: “As a company that cares deeply about the communities in which it operates, it is important for Engen to actively back NPO’s such as CHOC who do so much to support young children, teenagers and their families through their difficult cancer journeys.”

CHOC is an internationally recognised NPO that provides life changing and all-embracing support programmes for children, teenagers and their families on their respective cancer journeys.

 CHOC’s services include:

  • Emotional support, including palliative and end-of-life care, and bereavement support.
  • Practical support for patients and families, including essential care bags, nutritional food support, accommodation, transport to and from treatments and educational and awareness programmes on the early warning signs of childhood cancer.

Globally, childhood cancer is on the rise. It is now estimated that one in 408 children worldwide will be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 15.

Earlier this month Engen announced that it has partnered with the Comrades Marathon as the Official Fuel Supplier for 2024.
