Engen to showcase its sustainability and social impact initiatives at Mining Indaba

As a progressive energy and solutions partner dedicated to enriching lives for a sustainable future, Engen is excited to announce its participation in the 2024 'Investing in African Mining Indaba,' taking place from 5-8 February 2024 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).

The Indaba’s theme for this year, "Embracing the power of positive disruption: A bold new future for African mining," underscores both the industry and Engen’s commitment to positive change and sustainability.

Engen will be exhibiting under the banner of “Always Moving (because Mines are always moving)" which reflects its dedication to supply chain excellence, service, and community upliftment.

Engen’s interactive stand will feature a diverse range of quality Engen products whilst also showcasing Corporate Social Investment (CSI) projects, localisation initiatives, SMME and enterprise development strategy, as well as innovative mining solutions.

Says Head of Engen’s Commercial Business, Drikus Kotze: "We're excited to again be part of the largest mining event in Africa, showcasing how we support supply chain and service excellence on the continent, coupled with our numerous CSI initiatives, which focus on uplifting communities in areas in which we operate.”

Sharveen Maharaj, Engen’s Head of Lubricants, says the company’s localisation and CSI initiatives, span Education, Health Safety & Environment, Community Wellbeing, and support for People with Disabilities.

"Our CSI and localisation strategy aligns with our company's goals, the National Development Plan (NDP), and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” says Maharaj.

“The Mining Indaba is an opportunity to showcase the strides Engen has made in the sustainability arena as well as in various enterprise development and social upliftment initiatives.”

Recent Engen CSI initiatives specifically tailored for the mining communities, include:

  • In Moruleng, Engen constructed brand-new ablution facilities at a primary school, benefiting both male and female students.
  • Engen assisted two hundred Matric learners across 14 Secondary Schools in the Pilanesburg area by supporting a “boot camp” programme offering tutoring and study guides to upskill learners.
  •  Engen joined hands with Mazitkama Municipality to support young West Coast footballers by sponsoring a youth empowerment tournament held at the Vredendal-North Sports Stadium, As a company that cares, Engen is committed to helping uplift the country’s youth through sports sponsorship and social investment.
  • In Rustenburg Engen assisted 150 matriculants at Marikana High School prepare for their preliminary and final exams to help nurture talent and provide opportunities for growth and development.

“Engen believes in the power of positive change, and these endeavours are a testament to our dedication to making the world a better place, one community at a time,” adds Kotze.
