Engen has donated R2 229 500 to the Breede Valley Association for Persons with Disabilities (APD); a donation aimed at creating work opportunities
and providing life skills programmes for people with disabilities.

The handover ceremony took place on 29 March 2017 at APD.

APD are a non-profit organisation based in Worcester in the Western Cape.

The money, which will be used in support of income generating initiatives for people with disabilities, will be made available to APD over a two-year period.

Specific programmes - including hospitality training, arts and crafts, a recycling plant and a laundromat - will provide skills and training to assist disabled youth and adults to enter the work place.

Louine Griessel, CEO of Breede Valley APD hailed Engen’s investment for the impact on the beneficiaries and the far reaching impact on their families and the community of the Breede Valley.

“We are grateful to Engen for assisting us in empowering persons with disabilities to improve their socio-economic future,” says Griessel.

Engen recently extended its social investment focus to include people with disabilities as a core pillar.

Engen’s Corporate Social Investment Manager, Mntu Nduvane says the company is committed to conducting business in a manner that is compatible with the economic, social and environmental needs of the communities in which we operate.

“For this reason, we have extended our CSI focus areas, which previously included education, health and safety and the environment, to include the support of Persons with Disabilities. These are all closely aligned to the country’s national imperatives and addresses key issues in our business, society and government,” says Nduvane.

“As a company we are committed to community involvement and social upliftment.  In supporting the APD we hope to create an equitable society where persons with disabilities can share access to every sphere of educational, work and social life so that together we can forge a future that is inclusive of all people,” he adds.
