Empowerment Capital accepted as signatory to global responsible investment principles network
Local venture capital firm Empowerment Capital Investment Partners has been accepted as a signatory to the United Nations-backed Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) Global Network for investors committed to integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles into their investment practices and ownership policies.
Empowerment Capital has effected the implementation of these principles into its investment strategies, says CEO Bongumusa Makhathini.
“Becoming a signatory of PRI cements our commitment to fully explore all factors, including ESG, that could potentially impact the financial performance of individual companies. It is our responsibility as a business to ensure we keep the future impact of our present actions in mind because we believe the right way to do business is also the most profitable and sustainable,” he says.
“Investing in businesses that value social transformation is a founding principle of Empowerment Capital, engrained in our company's DNA. Investment flows that follow ESG principles must be realistic, measurable, collaborative and actionable, yield a return and make a positive difference on society for generations to come.
“It is another step in the advancement of our sustainable investment practices and stays consistent with our key focus of maximising returns for our investors,” he says.
The goal of PRI is to further understand sustainable investing implications and to support signatories encompassing ESG issues into decision making and ownership practices.
