US technology company L3Harris and developer and manager of solar energy projects Lightsource bp are working together to develop the plants.
Project Description
The project entails the construction of the 163 MW Elm Branch and 153 MW Briar Creek solar projects.
The projects will offset greenhouse-gas emissions of 370 000 t/y of carbon dioxide.
Lightsource bp has signed a virtual power purchase agreement with L3Harris Technologies for up to 100 MW of capacity from Elm Branch.
Lightsource has also signed a proxy generation power purchase agreement with the Capital Solutions unit of Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty, with respect to the electricity generated by Briar Creek.
Potential Job Creation
Elm Brach is expected to create 300 jobs, while Briar Creek will create about 250 jobs during construction.
Capital Expenditure
The Elm project is estimated at $380-million; the Briar Creek project is estimated at $152-million.
Planned Start/End Date
Both projects are expected to be in operation by late 2021.
Latest Developments
Lightsource bp successfully closed a $380-million financing package in January 2021 and has mobilised construction at its Elm Branch and Briar Creek solar projects.
McCarthy Building Companies has been selected by Lightsource bp as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor.
