The actual estimated electricity consumption and production decreased for the second consecutive month in November after registering a marginal uptick in September, a Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) report shows.

The 'Electricity generated and available for distribution' report revealed a 2.4% year-on-year decline in the actual volume of electricity consumption and a 3.3% year-on-year decrease in electricity production during the month under review.

This followed the 1.9% and 1.3% year-on-year decreases in electricity consumption and production, respectively, in October. In September, consumption and production increased by 1% and 1.3% respectively.

Stats SA said seasonally adjusted electricity consumption decreased by 1.6% month-on-month in November, while seasonally adjusted electricity production fell 0.9% month-on-month.

During the three months to November, seasonally adjusted electricity consumption and production both decreased by 1.7%.
