Project Description
The El-Dabaa NPP will be the first nuclear power plant in Egypt. The project will involve the construction of an NPP comprising four Russian-designed VVER-1200 pressurised water reactors.

With a nameplate capacity of 4.8 GWe, the plant is expected to account for up to 50% of Egypt’s power generation capacity to increase the country’s increasing demand for electricity.

Latest Developments
The first safety-related concrete has been poured for the nuclear island of Unit 1 of the El Dabaa NPP, signifying the official start of construction of the first of four VVER-1200 reactors at the site.

The Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority issued a construction licence for Unit 1 of the plant in June, ahead of schedule, consequently allowing for concrete pouring for the first reactor to start.
