Name of the Mine
Efemçukuru mine.
Location
Izmir province in western Türkiye.
Mine Owner/s
Eldorado Gold.
Brief Description
Efemçukuru is a high-grade, underground operation, which uses a flotation circuit to produce a gold concentrate.
Brief History
Eldorado Gold received an environmental positive certificate for the Efemçukuru mine in 2006. A feasibility study was completed a year later. Site preparation activities started in 2008. Commercial production at the mine was achieved in December 2011.
Primary Metals/Minerals
Gold.
Secondary Metals/Minerals
None stated.
Geology/Mineralisation
Eldorado Gold defines Efemçukuru as an intermediate sulphidation epithermal gold deposit hosted within Upper Cretaceous phyllite and schist at the western end of the Izmir-Ankara Suture Zone.
Vein mineralogy is variable but primarily comprises quartz, rhodonite that is commonly replaced by rhodochrosite, adularia and sulphide assemblages, including pyrite, galena, chalcopyrite and sphalerite.
Spectacular, high-grade banded crustiform-colloform textures exemplify the veins in addition to multistage breccias, which were likely the result of shallow-level boiling.
Most of the gold is very fine (2.5 μm to 50 μm), occurring as free grains in quartz and carbonate, and as inclusions in sulphide minerals. Lower-grade mineralised stockworks occur peripheral to the ore shoots, and are most strongly developed in hangingwall rocks.
Reserves
Total proven and probable reserves as at September 30, 2021, were estimated at 3.4-million tonnes grading 1.7 g/t gold.
Resources
Total measured and indicated resources as at September 30, 2021, were estimated at 4.6-million tonnes grading 7.2 g/t gold. Inferred resources were estimated at 3.3-million tonnes grading 5.9 g/t gold.
Mining Method
Underground using drift-and-fill and longhole open stoping.
Major Infrastructure/Equipment
The Efemçukuru mine comprises an underground mine with a process plant and ancillary facilities on surface situated south-west of Izmir in an area easily accessible by road.
The surface infrastructure at the mine includes site access and plant site roads, water treatment, supply and distribution facilities, sewage collection and disposal, diesel fuel storage, power supply and distribution facilities and, auxiliary facilities.
Prospects
Opportunities exist to extend the life-of-mine at the Efemçukuru mine through the conversion of high-grade inferred resources and the testing of new targets with the Kokarpinar and Kestane Beleni vein system.
