East Rockingham resource recovery facility.

Location
The plant will be located in the industrial region of Rockingham, 40 km south of Perth and 7 km from the pioneering plant in Kwinana, in Western Australia.

Project Owner/s
Hitachi Zosen INOVA (HZI), New Energy Corporation and Tribe Infrastructure Group.

Project Description
The project entails the construction of a waste-to-energy plant, which will treat about 300 000 t/y of waste from municipal, commercial and industrial sources. It will also recover about 73 800 t/y of bottom ash, which will be processed and used in road bases and other construction materials.

The plant will have a net capacity to generate 29 MW of renewable electricity, equivalent to the consumption of more than 36 000 households.

The project will prevent the emission of more than 300 000 t/y of carbon dioxide equivalent.

Potential Job Creation
The project is expected to create 50 permanent jobs and 300 jobs during construction.

Capital Expenditure
The project’s cost is estimated at A$511-million.
