PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed gold junior Papillon Resources has started early construction work at its Fekola project, in Mali, ahead of the completion of a definitive feasibility study (DFS).

The company said on Wednesday that it had started early site clearing at the proposed plant site and mine services area, prior to a final investment decision.

“The commencement of site clearing as part of our early civil works programme highlights Papillon’s commitment to moving Fekola towards production. We will continue to address other key early forward works in the coming months,” said Papillon MD and CEO Mark Connelly.

He noted that the junior would also continue to aggressively assess the exploration potential in the region, in particular the early-stage Menankoto discovery, which is some 10 km north of Fekola.

The Fekola DFS would be completed during the second half of 2014.

A 2013 prefeasibility study (PFS) determined that the Fekola project could deliver about 300 000 oz/y. The DFS would build on the technical and economic results achieved in the PFS.
