DTIC helps local companies participate in Mozambique trade show
The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC) will showcase 17 local businesses at the fifty-seventh Feira Internacional de Maputo (Facim) Trade Fair that will take place in Maputo, Mozambique, from August 28 to September 4.
This will be the first full-scale Facim in over two years.
Facim is Mozambique’s biggest yearly trade show, attracting attendance from both African and overseas exhibitors in search of partnerships and new markets for their products and services.
South African companies set to participate in Facim 2022 were assisted through the DTIC’s Export Marketing and Investment Assistance scheme, which is responsible for developing export markets for South African products and services.
Trade, Industry and Competition Deputy Minister Fikile Majola says South African delegate companies vary in size and expertise and will compete within the sectors of manufacturing, textiles, agroprocessing, installation materials, steel, water systems and health and beauty products.
“I implore them to take maximum advantage of the prospects that lie in wait in Mozambique, more especially now as Facim is reverting to full-scale format after two years of tight Covid-19 regulations which limited trade,” he says.
Majola adds that South Africa and Mozambique have committed to increasing areas of cooperation that are beneficial for the neighbouring countries' bilateral relations.
“We are looking forward to highlighting South Africa’s commercial value proposition at Facim, promoting intra-African trade and increasing the levels of industrialisation in the Southern African Development Community and the rest of the African continent as envisaged by the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement,” he says.
