Dominion Cove Point liquefied natural gas terminal and export project, US
Name and Location
Dominion Cove Point liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal and export project, US.
Client
Dominion Resources.
Project Description
The proposed liquefaction facilities, combined with existing facilities, will provide a bidirectional import and export service for LNG at the Dominion Cove LNG terminal and will be built within the existing footprint.
The proposed 5.25-million-tonne-a-year facility will be designed to process an average of 750-million standard cubic feet a day of inlet feed gas.
Natural-gas-fired turbines at the facility will drive the main refrigerant compressors.
The facility will also generate additional power on site to meet the power demands of the liquefaction plant.
The liquefaction facilities will connect with the existing facility and share common facilities, such as the LNG tanks, pumps, piping and pier to support the import and export of LNG.
Value
The project will cost between $3.4-billion and $3.8-billion.
Duration
Dominion plans to start construction on the facility this year and bring the liquefaction facilities into service in 2017.
Latest Developments
In September, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved the site, construction and operation of the LNG terminal, and Dominion accepted the commission’s order approving the project, as well as all the FERC’s environmental conditions.
Key Contracts and Suppliers
IHI E&C International Corporation and Kiewit Corporation (engineering, procurement and construction contractor).
