The Department of Communications (DoC) on Monday said Joe Mjwara would lead the information and communication technology (ICT) review panel as chairperson.

The 22-member ensemble, which was selected by Communications Minister Dina Pule in November, was responsible for the development of South Africa’s Integrated National ICT Policy.

Pule also appointed Lucky Masilela as the deputy chairperson of the panel.

Libby Lloyd would chair the broadcasting committee, while Tracy Cohen and Angie Maseko would steer the telecommunications and postal policy reviews respectively.

Tshilidzi Marwala would chair the infrastructure committee and Sizwe Snail would lead the e-commerce committee.

The panel was tasked with delivering, in conjunction with the DoC, an ICT policy White Paper by early next year.

DoC acting director-general Gift Buthelezi and deputy director-general for ICT Policy Themba Phiri were leading the department’s team and working closely with the panel.
