PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) has conditionally approved ASX-listed Widgie Nickel’s mining proposal for its Faraday lithium deposit.

The approval is subject to two conditions precedent, including the completion of a flora survey within the disturbance envelope, and a clearance prescribed under the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act over the project’s proposed footprint.

“Widgie has met a further key project milestone for the Faraday project and within 12 months of first stepping on the ground we now have a shovel-ready mining project. The Widgie team’s lithium aspirations are nearing reality. The team and its consultants have done an amazing job in getting the fast-tracked Faraday development to this point,” said MD Steve Norregaard on Friday.

The Faraday lithium deposit within the Mt Edwards project is central to a world class lithium corridor which covers a total strike extent of more than 100 km. The deposit has a mineral resource estimate of 481 000 t, grading 0.59% lithium oxide.

Widgie is proposing a direct shipping ore operation at Faraday, starting in the second half of 2023, while the company continues with exploration work on the greater Mt Edwards project.
