State-owned defence group Denel has appointed Michael Kgobe, current divisional CE of Denel Aeronautics, as interim group CEO, effective September 1.

This is subsequent to William Hlakoane’s contract coming to an end as interim group CEO on August 31.

Kgobe has an aeronautical engineering background and has been with the company since May 2000. He was appointed CE of Denel Aviation, the precursor to Denel Aeronautics, in 2010.

Kgobe has previously acted in the position as group CEO in 2018.

The board thanked Hlakoane for his period as interim group CEO since February 2021, and says it looks forward to his continued contribution as group COO, supporting Kgobe and the group executive committee, together with the chief revenue officer in the implementation of the turnaround plan.

The process to recruit a full-time group CEO is under way.
