Project Description
The project involves the construction of two wind parks on Peru’s north-western Pacific coast, comprising 62 wind turbines.

The wind farms known as Cupisnique and Talara, will have an installed capacity of about 114 MW.
When completed, these will be the first large-scale wind farms ever built in Peru and the largest wind farms in operation in South America outside Brazil.

Cupisnique is located in the province of Pacasmayo, in the La Libertad region, about 1 095 km from Lima, the nation’s capital.

The wind farm will use 45 x 1.8 MW Vestas V-100 wind turbine generators.

Talara is located in the province of Talara, in the Piura region, about 670 km from Lima. The wind farm will use 17 x 1.8 MW Vestas V-100 wind turbine generators.

Both wind farms will also construct a new substation and transmission line to connect with the Peruvian national grid.

The total expected investment is $250-million.

The wind farms will become operational this year.

Latest Developments
ContourGlobal has entered into an agreement with Corporación Financiera de Desarollo, Peru’s national development bank for a $95-million loan facility.

Further, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (Opic) has approved a $193-million loan for the wind farms.

Vestas Corporation is the general contractor and is supplying 62 of its 1.8 MW V-100 wind turbine generators.
