Project Description
The project involves the construction of a 27.8 MW biomass combined heat and power plant, which will provide green electricity and heat for adjacent pharmaceuticals businesses.
It will be fuelled with sustainable forestry by-products sourced from the local area.
The steam cycle will include a reheat stage, typically only used at larger projects, to deliver enhanced efficiency.
The facility will generate 223 GWh/y of renewable electricity (enough to power 52 000 homes), supply power and heating to two pharmaceuticals companies on a direct wire and pipeline, and export the remaining power to the national grid.

Construction started in September 2015 and is expected to be completed in 2017.
Latest Developments
The project has reached financial close.
Mott MacDonald is the lender’s technical adviser on the project on behalf of Barclays Bank, which is providing £90-million in financing for the scheme.
Mott MacDonald has completed a technical and environmental review of the project, which is Barclays’ first biomass deal in the UK.
