Continental Tyre South Africa (CTSA) has appointed 45-year-old Shaun Uys as MD, effective August 1.

The former head of marketing and sales for replacement tyres across South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa succeeded Dieter Horni, who would now head up the company’s business development for the Middle East and Africa.

Uys, after assuming his role as GM for sales and marketing in 2012, drove CTSA's expansion into sub-Saharan Africa and Africa as part of the company’s long-term Vision 2025 growth strategy.

“While our headquarters and manufacturing operations remain in South Africa, I believe that Africa holds enormous potential. To show our confidence and belief in this market, we have established a legal entity in Ghana and plan on establishing another in East Africa by 2020," Uys said in a statement on Tuesday.

Uys, who joined CTSA in 2000 as a production manager, had held various roles within the company and had previously been based in Hanover, Germany, and Charlotte, in the US.
