Concrete efflorescence addressed
Efflorescence is caused by soluble salts migrating through concrete via capillary action, resulting in a white, chalky substance being deposited on the surfaces of concrete. Preventing the emergence of this aesthetic problem is seen as a key concern for project managers and contractors.
A new solution designed to prevent efflorescence while simultaneously giving a durable water repellent property to concrete, is now available.
The CHRYSO Alpha Color 600, available from CHRYSO Southern Africa, is a double-function admixture which gives a beading effect to concrete and enables mortars and concrete to resist water penetration, by capillarity or by pressure.
It is also said to improve the aesthetic characteristics of manufactured concrete products, considerably reducing the appearance of spots and rings owing to efflorescence. This gives a homogeneous colour to the result, whether it is precast aesthetic concrete, light precast concrete or coloured concrete.
This high-performance efflorescence reducer is available in a range of packaging, including 25 l jerry cans, 200 l drums, 1 000 l flow bins or bulk tanker loads. With a long shelf life of 12 months, it can be homogenised by means of light agitation after extended periods of storage. It can even endure freezing, requiring agitation after thawing to recover its properties.
An added benefit of using CHRYSO Alpha Color 600 is that pigmented concrete products are said to be much richer in colour and the solution is also classified as harmless and safe for use by contractors and employees.
