Company Annoucements:Great results for Neil Ellis Wines
Records tumbled at the 29th Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Auction held at Spier in the Stellenbosch Winelands recently with the highest sales ever recorded exceeding R8.4-million. The auction, conducted by Henré Hablutzel of Hofmeyr Mills Auctioneers for the 16th consecutive year, attracted 145 local and 18 foreign buyers. In total 3 218 cases were sold at an average price of R2 609 per case and an average price per bottle of R435.
Neil Ellis Auction Reserve Pinotage 2011 was the third top selling wine based on an average price per case equivalent of 6x750ml for R4910. At the recent Veritas awards, the longest running wine competition in South Africa, Neil Ellis Vineyard Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 walked away with a double gold medal, and the Neil Ellis Vineyard Selection Grenache 2010 with a gold. The Veritas Awards gives recognition to wines of exceptional quality and the distinctive Veritas symbol of excellence serves as an authoritative quality guideline for wine connoisseurs. Gold and double gold awards are of significant value to the wine industry as well, as it offers a prestigious image for the wine, winery and winemaker and contributes to growth in sales. The principle behind Neil Ellis (the wine label) is that no single vineyard area is ideal for all grape varieties. Since 1986, when Ellis set out to make his own wines, he has sourced grapes from an amazing diversity of vineyard sites. His moves were pioneering – he was making and marketing top-class wines from Darling and Elgin since the early 90’s. In 2003 a German food and wine magazine, Der Feinschmecker, chose Neil Ellis as the wine personality of the year, one of six top finalists and the only one from South Africa. Wine is available to the public and wine club at their new, beautiful premises on the Helshoogte Pass. Visit www.neilellis.com or phone 021 887 0649 for more information.
