The project involves the construction of a 154 MW coal-fired generation plant in Huasco, about 700 km north of Santiago, in Chile. The plant will be situated adjacent to four previously constructed units and will comprise a boiler, a steam turbine, a generator, a steam condenser and a removal system for sulphur oxides, nitrogen oxides and particular materials.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has been awarded a full turnkey contract from Empresa Eléctrica Guacolda for the coal-fired power plant.
MHI will manufacture and supply all major equipment except for the generator and electrical equipment.
The company will also be responsible for construction work at the site.
The generator and electrical equipment will be manufactured and supplied by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation.
