PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Iron-ore developer Centaurus Metals on Friday reported that it had secured a key installation licence on its Jambreiro project, in Brazil, clearing the way for on-site construction to start.

The granting of the licence was achieved ahead of schedule, Centaurus said, and followed the approval of the project’s environmental control plans.

MD Darren Gordon told shareholders that the granting of the installation licence marked another major step for the Jambreiro project, and represented the final regulatory milestone required to enable construction to start.

“With the installation licence now on hand, we are in a position to begin on-site construction. Initial development work is already under way and actual works are planned to begin at the end of this month, subject to completion of suitable offtake arrangements and finalization of the overall funding mix.”

The installation licence allowed Centaurus to operate at a production rate of three-million tons a year of saleable product, although the company has previously said that it would start production at an initial rate of two-million tons a year.

The mine life was estimated at around nine years, based on a Joint Ore Reserves Committee-compliant resource of 125-million tons, grading 26.7% iron.
