Cape Preston East port iron-ore export facility, Australia
Name and Location
Cape Preston East port iron-ore export facility, Pilbara, Australia.
Client
Iron Ore Holdings (IOH).
Project Description
The project involves an innovative method to transfer iron-ore from shore to ship, removing the need for dredging and the construction of breakwaters and, therefore, limiting the impact on the marine environment.
The proposed iron-ore export facility is located 60 km south-west of Danpier and 4 km east of CITIC Pacific’s Cape Preston port. It includes a landside stockpile area to hold about two-million tonnes of iron-ore product, materials handling facilities and a 1.4 km trestle jetty into the ocean. IOH proposes to fund the development of a port facility with a capacity of up to 25-million tonnes a year, which will facilitate the export of product from Bungaroo South, IOH’s satellite desposits and third-party users.
The proposed IOH facility will occupy a relatively small portion of the largest Cape Preston East area, which could be further developed by other parties.
