TSX-V-listed Manganese X Energy’s high-purity manganese (HPMSM) sample has met US battery manufacturer C4V’s Phase 1 commercial level qualification compliance standards for the electric vehicle (EV) battery cathode and is moving to the next round of testing.

"Achieving this milestone brings us one step closer to becoming the first publicly traded mining company in Canada and the US to commercialise high-purity, EV-compliant manganese,” said Manganese X CEO Martin Kepman.

In C4V’s Phase 1 testing, Manganese X’s sample demonstrated that electrodes could be calibrated and that while testing its rate, performance and capacities, these met the standards required. Capacities and performance of the sample also appeared stable during long cycling.

Phase 2 will be to validate that Manganese X’s sample meets standards for long cycling performance and capacity retention of the cells.

Kepman said entering Phase 2 of testing with C4V would move the company closer to a potential offtake agreement for manganese from the Battery Hill project.

Battery Hill, in Woodstock, New Brunswick, contains one of the largest manganese carbonate deposits in Canada and the US.

The North American supply chain is currently dependent on overseas sources for manganese.
