Cameco resumes full uranium production in Saskatchewan after flooded road issues
TSX- and NYSE-listed uranium miner Cameco has successfully returned to full production at the McArthur River mine and the Key Lake mill, in northern Saskatchewan, following a flooding disruption earlier this month.
The group affirms its full-year consolidated production outlook remains unchanged at between 19.5-million and 21.5-million pounds of triuranium octoxide.
Cameco temporarily halted production at Key Lake on May 10 while reducing activity at McArthur River as a result of a bridge collapse. Cameco clarifies that its sites were not directly impacted by flood waters, but the Smoothstone River bridge, which the company uses to transport material between the two sites, partially collapsed owing to flood waters.
There were also weight and traffic restrictions on the alternative roadway, which interrupted the delivery of critical operating materials for the company.
Cameco remains in contact with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways to ensure timely restored access to Cameco's primary supply route.
While the company has been able to consistently deliver the volume of materials required to resume full operations at both Key Lake and McArthur using the secondary route for the last few weeks, it warns that thawing and precipitation events could results in further road restrictions, which could cause delays in future deliveries of critical operating materials to Cameco's sites.
