Company Announcement - CA Southern Africa is continuing its drive to promote South African companies to commence POPI (Protection of Personal Information)* planning now.
The company is delivering a practical roadmap to the South African business sector in two workshops that will take place in Johannesburg and Cape Town on October 9th and 10th, respectively. CA Southern Africa aims to assist companies to commence the process of constructing a POPI compliance plan as soon as possible.

Whilst POPI was passed into law in November 2013, government has not yet announced the enactment date which has led to many organisations taking a “wait and see” attitude.  Eren Ramdhani, security solution strategist, CA Southern Africa, says this approach is a mistake. “It is widely anticipated that government will announce the enactment date for POPI before the end of 2014, at which time the business community will have a one year period of grace in which to achieve compliance.  This may sound like an ample timeframe but in reality will be a relatively short period in which to achieve the complex task of compliance,” says Ramdhani.

“CA Southern Africa is exceptionally well positioned to guide companies through the POPI planning process by not only delivering a practical roadmap to achieving compliance but by also revealing how a proactive approach to commencing POPI planning now can yield tangible business benefits. The identification of exactly what, where, when, and how crucial data, information, people, processes, and systems are all orchestrated in an organisation will provide an opportunity to improve their risk management and highlight weak spots.

“It is our aim to provide SA’s business sector with a guide to the successful and easy implementation of a POPI strategy and all the benefits that this approach can yield.  These benefits include: improved accountability of suppliers and outsourcers plus enhanced customer trust which in turn leads to greater loyalty,” concludes Ramdhani.
