Bushveld targets maiden phosphate resource estimate
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aim-listed Bushveld Minerals said on Wednesday that it expected to release the maiden Joint Ore Reserve Committee- (Jorc-) compliant mineral resource estimate for its P-Q project, in Limpopo, by the second quarter of 2014.
Bushveld said the MSA group would immediately start the resource modelling of the phosphate zone on the project after the latest assay results confirmed the continuity of the zone along the strike of the iron-ore resource and reinforced the “geological potential” of the zone.
The assay results showed grades between 2.66% and 4.8% phosphorus pentoxide (P2O5) over thicknesses between 18 m and 69 m – consistent with previously reported assays.
Bushveld noted that, combined with the recently reported positive metallurgical testwork results, which realised a more than 33% P2O5 concentrate with reasonable recoveries, the deposit could “significantly enhance the economics” of the overall P-Q project.
"I am pleased to provide these updates in respect of the phosphate project, particularly following the recent execution of our amended prospecting right that now includes the mineral phosphate,” Bushveld CEO Fortune Mojapelo said.
A preliminary economic evaluation of the phosphate resource, which was expected to be undertaken after the mineral resource estimation was completed, would take into account the more detailed metallurgical testwork currently under way to improve the efficiency of recoveries for a phosphate concentrate product.
