Burkina Faso authorities have detailed a Perkoa mine manager and a manager from mining contractor Byrnecut, pending a trial on charges relating to the April flooding event at the mine, Trevali Mining has confirmed.

The company is working with its legal representatives to seek the release of the detained individuals, it said in a statement on Monday.

Charges relating to this matter have also been filed against Nantou Mining (Burkina Faso), Trevali's 90% owned subsidiary and the operator of Perkoa.

On April 16, unseasonal rainfall near Perkoa created a flash flood that entered the mine property and breached the mine's safety controls, flooding the underground mine and resulting in the deaths of eight workers.

Perkoa mining and milling operations remain suspended following the flooding event.

Trevali last week filed for protection under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA), after it defaulted on debt arrangements. As a result of trading under CCAA, the company's shares may be delisted from trading on the TSX and other exchanges in due course.

Trevali has placed the Cariboo mine, in Canada, under care and maintenance and halted the expansion of its Rosh Pinah mine, in Namibia.

The company also announced that Nick Popovic and Aline Cote had resigned from the board of directors.
