China-based Jiangxi Yaxing Textile Industrial was set to inject another R600-million into its subsidiary’s Bronkhorstspruit operations over the next two years, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said on Monday.

The Rayal Porcelain Tile Company, which was the product of one of Jiangxi’s first overseas projects in 2011, had already invested R250-million to establish the ceramic and tile production line, and planned to introduce three more during the 2015/16 financial year.

Rayal Tile’s 350 acre manufacturing facility supplied mainly glazed tiles, polished tiles, glazed porcelain tile and other building ceramic products to major tile outlets such as Tile Africa, Builders Warehouse, Itali Tile and Ceramic Tile Market.

The expansion would allow the tile manufacturer to increase its workforce from the 350 South Africans employed from the nearby Ekangala township to 1 400, Trade and Industry Deputy Minister Elizabeth Thabethe said during a site visit to the facility.

“We welcome such investments in the country as they assist us in realising our goal of creating employment and developing [the] skills of our people,” she said.

Thabethe said the purpose of the site visit was to review what the company had done to contribute to employment creation and skills development after it was assisted by the DTI to set up in the country.

“These are indeed the fruits of our efforts to encourage international businesses to invest in our country and to make South Africa the preferred destination for investment,” Thabethe concluded.
