Bowman Gilfillan Africa Group has been highly ranked across Africa in IFLR1000′s recent research into the energy and infrastructure markets. This reaffirms the group’s position as a leading pan-African legal services provider to corporates, financial institutions and the public sector across Africa.

The firm is ranked tier 1 in three of the four practice areas within this guide. Seventeen of our lawyers have been recommended as Leading Lawyers, with two earmarked as Rising Stars. According to the publication, “Bowman Gilfillan is seen as one the strongest overall teams in South Africa by both clients and peers alike.” One in-house counsel says: “The firm is practically orientated and innovates to find solutions that mitigate risks and ensure ethical business and governance.”

Established in 1990, the IFLR1000 is a guide to the world’s leading financial law firms focusing exclusively on corporate finance and transactional law. Rankings and editorial commentary are based on independent research conducted by teams of journalists covering more than 120 jurisdictions worldwide. Law firms are ranked according to transactional evidence and peer and client feedback.

Bowman Gilfillan Africa Group chairman, Rob Legh, says, “The energy and infrastructure sectors are seeing unprecedented growth in Africa. As the African continent's economy grows, so too does the need for infrastructure development, across borders and in all sectors. In addition, millions of people in Africa do not yet have access to power, making the supply of energy one of the key drivers of socio-economic development on the continent. We are proud to be ranked so highly in these areas of law that are so essential for the growth and development of Africa and its people.

"Top tier rankings from the International Financial Law Review are a great way of affirming that we are delivering a world class standard of service to our clients."

The group continues to advise the private sector in numerous solar, wind and small hydro projects, as well as in notable infrastructure, and oil and gas deals across Africa.
