PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner Beadell Resources has reported a maiden underground mineral resource of 4.86-million tonnes, grading 4.06 g/t gold for 634 000 oz at its Urucum underground project, in Brazil.

Some 400 000 oz of the resource was classified as measured an indicated and a further 234 000 oz as inferred.

“We could not be more pleased with the outcome of our drilling programme this year. This maiden underground resource statement, which includes very high-grade gold ore in the measured and indicated category, lays the foundation for a prefeasibility study (PFS) into a low-cost sustainable underground operation,” said MD Peter Bowler.

He noted that the high-grade nature of the orebody was particularly pleasing, with the Central Lode 1 ore shoot averaging 7.54 g/t gold.

“The profitability of our current six-year openpit mine plan will most likely be significantly enhanced and extended by the expected positive results from the PFS, which will be finalised before year’s end,” Bowler added.
