ASX-listed BCI Minerals has received a key commonwealth government approval, paving the way for full-scale operations at its Mardie solar salt and sulphate of potash project in Western Australia.

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water has approved BCI’s groundwater monitoring and management plan, allowing the company to proceed with filling the remaining operational ponds (Ponds 4 through 9) and to begin commissioning the crystallisers.

The commonwealth approval follows earlier environmental clearances granted by the Western Australian government, meaning all necessary approvals are now in place for full operations at Mardie.

“This is a major milestone in the development of Australia’s newest and largest solar salt project,” said BCI MD David Boshoff. “With all necessary environmental approvals now in place, we are fully focused on safely delivering a world-class operation that will supply premium industrial salt to global markets.”

Mardie is designed to produce high-purity salt and other minerals using seawater and solar evaporation, with the company targeting supply into growing Asian chemical markets.
