There is a growing demand for backup power that will ensure critical IT appliances continue operating during unexpected power outages, reducing the risk of losing data and preventing potential cybersecurity threats during downtime. 

Power management company Eaton has launched its 5P Gen 2 uninterruptible power supply (UPS), which it describes as a compact and more efficient power solution that can be used to safeguard IT devices by keeping them secure and operational during a power outage. 

The new product range also enables fleet management, remote UPS setting and remote firmware upgrades. The 5P Gen 2 provides up to 1 350 W, making it suitable for protecting a range of applications. It is designed to ensure both stable performance and energy savings and incorporates advanced load segment control that prioritises critical equipment and optimises battery runtime.

This UPS model features the Eaton ABM+ advanced battery management technology which extends battery life by up to 50% and allows for accurate battery life prediction and replacement alerts powered by machine learning. It includes a hot-swappable battery and an intuitive battery replacement wizard using a built-in graphical liquid crystal display.

Eaton’s intelligent power manager IPM2 and distributed IT performance management DITPM software enables remote monitoring and  IT infrastructure management including secure device configuration and firmware updates, even in remote locations.

Eaton Africa field product marketing manager Jessica Masina says that the Eaton 5P Gen 2 UPS, together with the cybersecure gigabit network card, which is included in the Netpack versions, meets stringent cybersecurity standards, and that the company’s Brightlayer software suite is available for seamless integration with virtualisation environments, ensuring continuous service and data integrity.

A compact 1U rack or the tower configuration is available, making the UPS compatible with a variety of setups.
