Aveng Grinaker-LTA appoints new MD
Construction major Aveng has appointed Chris Botha MD of its multidisciplinary construction and engineering subsidiary Aveng Grinaker-LTA, with effect from January 2.
Botha, who is currently the COO for the civil cluster of businesses at rival construction firm Murray & Roberts (M&R), has 21 years’ experience in the construction industry in South Africa and elsewhere on the African continent, having worked for Group Five, Concor and M&R.
His prior responsibilities included managing Concor’s opencast mining, roads and earthworks and civils operations, as well as M&R’s power division, where was chairperson of the Medupi power station joint venture.
Aveng said in a statement on Wednesday that Botha would work closely with interim MD Brian Wilmot, who would assist in the handover of duties.
“Thereafter, in his capacity as MD of Aveng Construction Africa, Wilmot will continue to contribute to the turnaround of Aveng Grinaker-LTA, with particular emphasis on positioning the business for sustainable growth by developing opportunities in sub-Saharan Africa,” the company noted.
The group also announced that the senior management team of Aveng Grinaker-LTA had been further strengthened by the recent appointment of five senior operations executives, who had extensive experience in the fields of financial business, systems management, commercial management, roads and earthworks and civil engineering.
