Aveng consolidates business units
JSE-listed Aveng Group has embarked on the consolidation of its individual business units under the group’s steel, construction and engineering portfolio in an effort to improve the customer focus of the businesses and streamline operations.
The group said on Friday that it would regroup certain business units into “more relevant and aligned operating groups”, while reorganising the management structures of the new divisions.
Aveng’s three steel-related businesses – DSE within Aveng Grinaker-LTA, Aveng Steeledale and Aveng Trident Steel – would be combined into one focused operation called Aveng Steel, headed up by current Aveng Trident Steel MD Hercu Aucamp.
The company’s construction units, which included the main operating unit Aveng Grinaker-LTA, would fall under a consolidated division named Aveng Construction Africa.
Brian Wilmot, stepping down from his current role as Aveng Mining group executive, was appointed MD of the newly formed division.
Aveng Grinaker-LTA MD Grahame McCaig had resigned.
The MDs for Aveng Moolmans and Aveng Shaft and Underground Mining would, in the interim, report to the Aveng Group CEO.
Meanwhile, Aveng would dissolve the specialised business clusters by shifting the construction-related units directly under the construction units of Aveng Grinaker-LTA and the manufacturing/sales units directly under Aveng Manufacturing or Aveng Steel.
Aveng Engineering, to be led by current Aveng E+PC MD Gavin Young, would be tasked with overseeing the generic engineering services and project management activities, with Aveng Water, Power & Energy and Minerals becoming the customer-facing sub-units.
