Atlas Iron boosts Pilbara resource
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Iron-ore miner Atlas Iron has reported a 25% increase in the total mineral resource at its Corunna Downs project, between its Mt Webber and McPhee Creek projects, in the Pilbara.
The resource increase followed on from a maiden inferred mineral resource for the Glen Herring deposit, which was estimated at 14-million tonnes, grading 57.3% iron.
Atlas said on Friday that along with the mineral resource of 51-million tonnes, grading 57.3% iron, for the Split Rock, Runway, Razorback and Shark Gully deposits, the total Joint Ore Reserves Committee-compliant direct shipping ore resource at Corunna Downs now stood at 65-million tonnes, grading 57.3% iron.
The miner noted that the Glen Herring resource remained open along strike, while drilling at Runway had extended mineralisation to the north. Atlas added that there was potential to define further mineralisation at the Shark Gully and Razorback resources, which also remained open along strike.
Both of the deposits were located in close proximity to existing mine sites, and would be evaluated as potential satellite pits, which could be developed using the contractor collaboration model, which had been implemented to cut costs at the Abydos and Wodgina projects, also in the Pilbara.
Meanwhile, Atlas also announced an inferred mineral resource for its Miralga Creek project of some four-million tonnes, grading 57.7% iron. The deposit was adjacent to the Abydos haul road, and demonstrated Atlas’s ability to add value to its North Pilbara operations, the company said.
