Askaf iron-ore project, Mauritania.

Project Description
The project will see the production of six-million-ton-a-year magnetite sinter feed blend product, based on a staged development strategy, involving a fast-track two-million-ton-a-year start-up phase, followed by a four-million-ton-a-year expansion phase.

Value
The start-up phase value is estimated at $220-million, with the cash flow generated from the start-up phase expected to fund the planned $320-million expansion phase.

Duration
The start-up phase is scheduled for commissioning in the final quarter of 2011, with first shipment expected in the first quarter of 2012.

The expansion phase is targeted for completion in 2015.

Work is now in progress with engineering firms, mine planners, mining contractors, laboratories, equipment suppliers, as well as consultants, to progress the fast-tracking.
