In its final push to garner support for the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill the African National Congress (ANC) called on all its structures and supporters to intensify efforts to encourage submissions in support of the Bill to Parliament by Friday, November 29.

ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe said in a statement that NHI will deliver accessible, quality and affordable healthcare to all citizens irrespective of their socio-economic status or ability to pay.

The ANC said it was confident that the overwhelming majority of South Africans supported NHI, adding that it was encouraged by the progress the party had made in the campaign.

“The ANC believes that NHI will address many of the pressing challenges confronting the health sector. The ANC proceeds from the premise that healthcare is a human right and not a privilege reserved for a few. Access to healthcare must depend on people’s health needs and not their socio-economic status,” said the ANC.

All submissions must be addressed to Vuyokazi Majalamba at vmajalamba@parliament.gov.za; 021 403 3770 or 083 709 8522.

Alternatively, South Africans can use the following link to make their voices heard:
