Amplats names Moosa new nonexecutive chairperson
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Platinum major Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) on Friday said it had appointed Valli Moosa as independent nonexecutive chairperson with immediate effect.
Moosa’s appointment followed the retirement of former Anglo American CEO Cynthia Carroll.
Amplats said in a statement that Moosa, who is currently chairperson of leisure group Sun International, was well-positioned to replace Carroll, as he had been a director of Amplats since 2008 and served as deputy chairperson and lead independent director of the company’s board since 2010.
“I look forward to leading the board through this challenging time and working with the executive team to ensure we deliver on our commitment to restoring Amplats to safe and sustainable profitability for the long-term benefit of all our stakeholders,” Moosa said.
Further, newly appointed Anglo American CEO Mark Cutifani had been appointed as a nonexecutive director of the Amplats board with immediate effect.
