PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Junior explorer Ampella Mining has increased the Joint Ore Reserves Committee-compliant resource at its Konkera deposit, in Burkina Faso, by some 6% and a 10% improvement in grade.

The Konkera deposit, which forms part of the larger Batie West project, now comprised an indicated resource of 34.2-million tons, at 1.8 g/t gold, for 1.92-million ounces of gold, and an inferred resource of 25-million tons, at 1.7 g/t gold for 1.33-million ounces.

The project’s global resource now stood at 59.2-million tons, at 1.7 g/t gold for around 3.25-million ounces of gold.

“Ampella is very pleased to see both the increase in grade and resource ounces, which are expected to have a positive impact on the overall economics of the Konkera project,” said Ampella MD and CEO Paul Kitto.

“The updated resource estimate will now be incorporated into the ongoing prefeasibility studies. Pit optimisation and mine planning schedules will be undertaken to ascertain new pit designs, total in-pit inventory and material movement schedules will be incorporated into project financial models.”

Kitto noted that some additional infill drilling would be required at Konkera to convert the minor remaining inferred resource within the expected pit limits to the indicated status, or higher categories, prior to executing the definitive feasibility study and releasing a maiden mineral reserve statement.
