Altus completes Phase 1 of community development project at Diba, in Mali
Aim- and TSX-V-listed Altus Strategies has completed the first phase of a long-term community development programme (CDP) at its 100%-owned Diba gold project, in western Mali.
Phase 1 work has included the provision of safe, tapped drinking water to the local school and to the village of Koropoto, 2 km east of the Diba deposit.
The project involved drilling a 72.5 m borehole, the construction of a 12-m-high water tank with a solar-powered water pump and the installation of all other necessary infrastructure.
Altus undertook a consultation process with representatives of Diba's local communities to prioritise the CDP projects that would be most impactful.
The consultation identified critical themes in health and education, which are the current focus for the CDP.
Following consultation with the residents of Koropoto, specialist environmental company EBEF-Mali was commissioned to install a low-maintenance system to provide safe drinking water on tap to the local school and village.
"Long-term and sustainable investment in the local communities where we operate is core to our business at Altus. We are delighted to have completed the first phase of our CDP at the Diba gold project.
“The CDP at Diba is initially focused on the two priority areas of health and education, and builds on our existing strong ties to the local community from which many of our staff are employed,” Altus CE Steven Poulton says.
Altus says CDP is the foundation for the long-term and sustainable investment in local communities.
Further project phases for this and next year are currently being planned.
In time, the CDP programme will be extended to other communities in the surrounding area.
