Race Tidal, a joint venture (JV) between DCNS subsidiary OpenHydro and Alderney Renewable Energy (ARE).
Project Description
The island of Alderney is located in the Channel Islands and its territorial waters contain one of the world’s largest tidal energy resources.
Race Tidal aims to develop a 300 MW tidal array in the island’s waters.
Once completed, the array is expected to consist of 150 turbines of 2 MW each, which will produce enough power for more than 150 000 homes.
Related to the project is the development of a power interconnector between France, Alderney and Britain. This link will enable the tidal power generated in Alderney’s waters to be exported to European markets, and France and Britain to trade energy.

Latest Developments
Over the next three years, the JV partners will be working closely with the States of Alderney, the Alderney Commission for Renewable Energy, local communities and stakeholders to complete the required surveys and environmental-impact assessments before making an application for full consent.
