Project description
The project involves the installation of a 600-MW ¬to 700-MW combined-cycle gas turbine-driven power plant at Afam near Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The plant, Afam VI, is required to provide power to the Nigeria national power grid.

Breakdown of main contracts
The supply and site installation of a combined-cycle power plant comprising three or four major identical gas turbine generating sets, their related steam turbine generating equipment and condensing systems, having an aggregate capacity in the range 600 MW to 700 MW at site conditions, complete with all the necessary auxiliaries, controls and electric equipment, including HV switch yard.

The complete civil works construction for the plant, including foundations, sound attenuation enclosures, structures, bunds, drains, and preconstruction works, as required.

The commissioning and testing of the power plant and ancillary systems/equipment.

The operation and maintenance training for the operator.

The management of all related works and issues, notably the establishment of beneficial relationships with local host community.

Latest developments
Alstom has won contracts worth over €200-million for the supply of equipment and services for the project. The company will supply three 167-MW-GT13E2 gas turbines. In addition, Alstom will provide long-term operation support and maintenance services for the gas turbines and generators. It will also provide initial technical support to help set up a service organisation at the site.
