The Anzisha Prize, which is awarded to Africa’s foremost young entrepreneurs, has received a boost in the form of a $10 000 Energy Prize, in addition to the existing $75 000 cash award.

The additional prize, which was donated by Donor Circle for Africa, would be awarded to the applicant who demonstrated ingenuity in developing sustainable renewable-energy sources such as wind, solar, geothermal, biosources, water and others.

In addition to being locally sustainable, the project would need to be built, operated, and maintained by the people and resources available in the community it served.

It further required applicability in a broad range of communities across Africa and had to use resources and technology that could be replicated, enabling other communities to implement the model, given access to reasonably common resources.

With over $75 000 in cash prizes, the Anzisha Prize itself – hosted by the African Leadership Academy in partnership with The MasterCard Foundation – aimed to identify exceptional young entrepreneurs shaping the future of Africa.

Now in its third year, the award sought young innovators who had developed and implemented groundbreaking solutions to challenges facing their communities.

Fifteen finalists from across Africa would win an all-expenses-paid trip to South Africa to participate in a week-long entrepreneurship workshop and conference at the African Leadership Academy campus, in Johannesburg.

The competition was open to entrepreneurs from around the African continent aged between 15 and 22.

Applications are now open and would close on April 15.
