Wyoming

Wyoming is a state in the western United States. Its capital is Cheyenne, whilst Casper is the largest city by population. The state has a relatively small population of about 580 000 people, making it the least populous US state, yet it covers a substantial land area of 253 000 km². Wyoming's economy is heavily dependent on natural resources, particularly energy and minerals. The state is a leading producer of coal, natural gas and crude oil, with the energy sector forming the backbone of its economic activity. Mining and mineral extraction have long been central to Wyoming's industrial profile, with significant deposits of trona, bentonite and uranium, alongside emerging interest in rare-earth elements. Agriculture, particularly cattle ranching, also plays an important role in the state's economy. Tourism contributes meaningfully to Wyoming's revenue, driven by attractions such as Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park. The state has a business-friendly regulatory environment, with no corporate or personal income tax, which has attracted investment in extractive industries. Wyoming's governance structure is characterised by a strong tradition of resource management and land-use policy shaped by the dominance of federal landholdings across much of the state.
