Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Agriculture has elected Dr Nobuhle Nkabane as acting chairperson under Rule 159, filling the vacancy left after President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed former chairperson Dina Pule as Social Development Minister. The committee found she left the appointment process to adviser Asisipho Solani without following up, and noted Ramaphosa had already removed her from Cabinet, replacing her with Buti Manamela.
Political fallout continuesThe Democratic Alliance, which laid the original complaint, says Nkabane was later redeployed as ANC Deputy Chief Whip despite the findings, while critics have cited her case alongside other Cabinet controversies in broader criticism of accountability under Ramaphosa's government.
