Nkabane elected acting Agriculture Committee chairperson

Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Agriculture has elected Dr Nobuhle Nkabane as acting chairperson under Rule 159, filling the vacancy left after President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed former chairperson Dina Pule as Social Development Minister. Nkabane has pledged cross-party collaboration and named the foot-and-mouth disease response and stakeholder engagement on livestock trade as immediate priorities.

Ethics committee findings on Seta appointments finalised

Parliament's Joint Committee on Ethics and Members' Interests has found Nkabane guilty of breaching the Code of Ethical Conduct over her handling of Sector Education and Training Authority board chairperson appointments while she was Higher Education and Training Minister, recommending a formal reprimand and apology in the House. The committee found she left the appointment process to adviser Asisipho Solani without following up, and noted Ramaphosa had already removed her from Cabinet, replacing her with Buti Manamela.

Political fallout continues

The Democratic Alliance, which laid the original complaint, says Nkabane was later redeployed as ANC Deputy Chief Whip despite the findings, while critics have cited her case alongside other Cabinet controversies in broader criticism of accountability under Ramaphosa's government.
