Marubeni

Marubeni is a Japanese multinational trading and investment conglomerate headquartered in Tokyo. The company operates across a diverse range of sectors including energy, metals and minerals, chemicals, food, agriculture, forest products, textiles, materials, infrastructure, aerospace, finance, logistics and information technology. Marubeni is one of Japan's largest sōgō shōsha, or general trading companies, with operations spanning more than 60 countries worldwide. The company is publicly listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the Nikkei 225 index. Marubeni's business model centres on trading, distribution, financing and investment activities, acting as an intermediary in global supply chains while also taking equity stakes in operating businesses. The company employs tens of thousands of people globally and generates annual revenues exceeding $60-billion. Key business divisions include power generation and infrastructure development, grain trading and agribusiness, resource development and metals trading, and machinery and equipment distribution. Marubeni-Komatsu is a joint venture between Marubeni and construction equipment manufacturer Komatsu, distributing Komatsu machinery in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The company was founded in 1858 as a textile trading house and has evolved through mergers and diversification into one of Japan's most prominent trading houses.
