Mark Bristow

Mark Bristow is president and chief executive of Barrick Gold Corporation, one of the world's largest gold mining companies. He is a South African mining executive with decades of experience in the global gold sector. Bristow joined Barrick in 2019 following the company's merger with Randgold Resources, where he had served as founder and CEO since 1995. Under his leadership at Randgold, the company built a portfolio of high-quality gold mines across Africa, including operations in Mali, Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo. He is known for his hands-on management style and focus on operational efficiency, cost discipline and building strong relationships with host governments and communities. Since taking the helm at Barrick, Bristow has pursued a strategy of portfolio optimisation, divesting non-core assets and focusing on Tier 1 gold and copper assets. He holds a doctorate in geology and began his career as an exploration geologist in Africa. Bristow is regarded as one of the mining industry's most experienced and respected leaders, particularly in African gold mining. His tenure has been marked by efforts to improve Barrick's operational performance, strengthen its balance sheet and enhance returns to shareholders. He remains a prominent voice in the global mining sector on issues ranging from resource nationalism to sustainable mining practices.
