Harmony Gold Mining

Harmony Gold Mining is a South African gold mining company that operates underground and surface mines in South Africa and Papua New Guinea. The company is headquartered in Randfontein, South Africa, and is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange. Harmony's operations are concentrated in the Free State and North West provinces of South Africa, where it extracts gold from some of the world's deepest mining operations. The company's principal assets include the Tshepong and Moab Khotsong underground mines, both located in the Free State goldfields. Harmony produces gold through a combination of underground mining and surface operations, including the treatment of surface tailings deposits. The company has positioned itself as one of South Africa's largest gold producers by output, with production measured in thousands of kilograms annually. Harmony employs several thousand people across its mining operations and processing facilities. In recent years, the company has pursued decarbonisation initiatives, including partnerships with independent power producers to secure renewable energy for its energy-intensive mining operations. Harmony Gold Mining was established in 1950 and has grown through organic expansion and acquisitions to become a significant player in the South African gold mining sector.
